Former TCU women's basketball assistant coach Yolanda Wells-Broughton was named the head coach at Texas Southern on Wednesday. The position marks her first Division I head coaching job.

A 1995 graduate of Grambling State and former Kodak All-American for Howard Junior College, Wells-Broughton was hired by TCU in 2004 and coached under Jeff Mittie through the 2006-07 season. The Lady Frogs advanced to NCAA Tournament play during each of her three seasons in Fort Worth. Her duties with the Frogs included working with the post players in addition to being heavily involved in advance scouting and video coordination.

Prior to TCU, Wells-Broughton worked five years at Trinity Valley Community following a two-season stint as head coach for NAIA Paul Quinn College in Dallas.

Wells-Broughton becomes the second assistant who has worked under Mittie and later moved on to a Division I head coaching position, joining Larry Tidwell, current Lamar head coach and TCU assistant from 1999 to 2007.

Wells-Broughton served the past season as an assistant at LSU, where she helped the Tigers make a fifth consecutive NCAA Final Four appearance.
